Last night Flower went into labor just before 10pm and just after 10:30pm she gave birth to a healthy and rambunctious little ewe lamb! While I found a lot of video's of sheep giving birth there were very few of an ewe in the first stages of labor. So I took a video of Flower in the first stages of labor prior to her water breaking. Video and pictures of Sheena (Flower's daughter) after the jump.
Shortly after I shot this video Flower's water broke and she went into the second stage of labor. I was ecstatic when I saw the lamb's two front hooves sticking out, because my main concern was that the lamb wouldn't be in the proper position. I was sure she was going to have twins, but I'm happy that she had an easy labor and a healthy lamb. So without further ado I present Sheena!
Sheena had some issues finding Flower's nipples to nurse at first, but now she's seemed to have figured it out. I gave her some replacement colostrum last night and this morning, but when I went to feed her when I came home from work she didn't want any so hopefully she is getting enough milk from her mom. Because Flower is a Painted Desert Sheep and Duncan is a Shetland I am calling Sheena a Painted Shetland Sheep. :)
