The Peate Family Farm
We originally hoped to start and run a small sustainable farm on our family's 13.6 acres located on Cumberland Head in Plattsburgh, NY but because those that lived around the property were misinformed and thought we were starting a pig farm the local government made it very difficult for us to get our project off the ground and we were forced to abandon our plans. We are now looking for a piece of property in Western NY Northeastern PA to purchase and start our farm instead.
We hope to provide our community (wherever that may be) with pasture raised pork, lamb, poultry and eggs along with naturally grown vegetables and herbs. We don't use pesticides or chemical fertilizers on our crops, and we don't give our animals hormones or unneeded medication. We are not certified organic, but we try to raise our animals and grow our vegetables as naturally as possible while still keeping costs down.
In the next five years we would like to start a Community Supported Agriculture program on our farm. We hope to work with our community to produce healthier and more environmentally friendly food options.
